Doris "Dot" Ann Glass Bell

Doris “Dot” Ann Glass Bell, age 80 of Homewood, formerly of Hueytown, passed away Saturday, September 28, 2013. Mrs. Bell was a member of North Highland Baptist Church. She was a hairdresser and the owner of Dot’s Beauty Shop for 43 years. Dot married her high school sweetheart, Donald Curtis Bell in 1951 and they were together until his death in 2008. She was a graduate of McAdory High School where she was a cheerleader in 1950 and 1951. She was also a graduate of Bessemer State Technical College. Dot was an avid Alabama fan. She and Donald attended as many games as possible. They enjoyed traveling with the Tide. Going to the homecoming and bowl games was great fun for them. Dot’s Beauty Shop was attached to her home and was always full of pretty hair, fun and laughter. Dot was preceded in death by her loving husband of 57 years, Donald Curtis Bell; her parents, Homer and Bertie Alene Blankenship Glass; her sister, Kay Glass Hudson; her brothers, Kenneth Glass and Bobby Joe Glass; her brother-in-law, Jerry Hudson; her sister-in-laws, Margaret Thompson Glass and Mary Nell Glass. She is survived by her daughters, Donna Bell Crowe (Jerry), and Carrie Bell Blankenship (Tim); her son, Danny Jack Bell (Barbara); her grandchildren, Amberly Crowe Gentry (Clint); Kimberly Crowe Beiersdoerfer (Brock), Nathan Blankenship (Kelsi), Trey Blankenship, Annette and Lauren Bell; her great grandchildren, Luke Gentry and Hanlee Blankenship; her sister, Patsy Glass Burchfield; her brother-in-law, Johnny “Bro” Burchfield; sister-in-law, Maude Hill Bell; along with a host of nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, October 2, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at Bessemer Brown Service Funeral Home with burial in Cedar Hill Cemetery. Rev. Gwin Coffey and Rev. Randy Norris will be officiating. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 9:30 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Mrs. Bell’s grandchildren will be presenting the Eulogy. Pallbearers will be, Clint Gentry, Brock Beiersdoerfer, Nathan Blankenship, Trey Blankenship, Kenneth “Butch” Burchfield, Greg Glass and Michael Gaston. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the 1950 and 1951 Cheerleading Squads and the 1950 and 1951 Class of McAdory High School.
