Edward Wrene Canada

Edward Wrene Canada, aged 98, passed away peacefully at his home in Hueytown, AL, on June 29, 2024 at the age of 98. He was a WWII veteran and fought in the Battle of the Bulge. He was born October 26,1925 to General and Gertrude Canada. He lost his father at the age of 5. He was raised by his aunt, Johnnie Canada, far back in the mountains of the Talladega Forest near Ironaton. He and his siblings had a very tough childhood. He was later drafted into the Military at 18 years old, and he served in the US Army for 4 Years. During that time, he fought on the front-line in the infantry against Hitler’s army engaging in the largest battle of WWII—the Battle of the Bulge. After WWII, he came to Fairfield, AL, to work at US Steel. He worked there for 33 years and also started a car business in the late 60’s of which he remained active to everyday. To say he was a dedicated man is an understatement. He was very active in the garden with the habit of personally delivering huge quantities of produce to his church every Sunday morning. His favorite hobbies were gardening and playing billiards. He could “run the table” most of the time, including this father’s day. He will be greatly missed, and his memories will be treasured for all our days. He was dedicated to serving God and an active member of his church communities. He was a member of Brooklane Baptist Church for years, and then Garywood Assembly of God for years, and then Heritage Christian Center for years. He had an amazing memory and was quoting the books of the Bible and verses just yesterday. He could quote the book of Romans, and even did so for a service at Brooklane Baptist Church, years ago. His mind was always sharp, and his faith in God sharpened his spirit. He loved God and all of his family. He was a WWII Survivor, a wonderful Dad, Grandfather, Great Grandfather, mentor, entrepreneur, friend and hero. Many people asked him, “What’s your secret?” His reply was always the same: “Work hard and pray harder.” He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 60 years Alice W Canada, his Brother, Joseph Gordon Canada, and sister Annie Lagrone. He is survived by his Children: Pamela Canada, Billy Canada, Cathy Canada(Steve), Rita Canada(Jerry Hardin) and Jack Canada; his grandchildren: Andrea Ham (Joshua), Jonathan Canada, Cassie Watkins (Buck), Cody Canada (Alexandra), Chelsie Canada (Coty), Mark Pylant, Jaclyn Mardis (Tyler), and Taylor Canada (Ashley); Great grandchildren: Jacob Pelletier, Cadin Ham, Tyler Ham, Hallie Watkins, Hunter Watkins, Hawk Watkins, Beau Canada, and Wren Alexander Mardis; Nephew: Randy Lagrone; Nieces: Linda Stockton(Robert), Diana Ferrell (Donnie), and Robbie Hulgan (Haskel), As well as a host of cousins, grand and great-grand nephews and nieces. The funeral service for Mr. Canada will be Friday, July 5, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at Bessemer Brown Service Funeral Home with burial following at Highland Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Friday from 10:00 a.m. until service time at the funeral home. Pastor Mark Winslett will be officiating the service.
