Rev. James David Bailey

Reverend James David Bailey October 7, 1926 – January 3, 2016 Reverend James David Bailey 89 died January 3, 2016 with his family by his side. Services will be held Thursday, January 7, 2016 at Cahaba Heights United Methodist Church at 3139 Cahaba Heights Rd. Vestavia, AL 35243. Visitation will be at 10:00 AM with a service to follow at 11:00 AM. There will also be a graveside service at Valhalla cemetery. James was born October 7th, 1926 in Birmingham, AL. He was the son of Odus and Annie George Bailey of Hueytown, AL. He is survived by his wife Marion P. Bailey of Birmingham, AL., Daughters Karen Bailey and Lu Ann B. Newman. Sons James David Bailey and John Mark Bailey. Grandchildren, Abigale Newman, Alexandria Newman, Jackson Bailey, Janet Bailey, James David Bailey III, John Mark Bailey, Josh Bailey, Mary Ann Bailey, James Bailey and Jonah Bailey. He was preceded in death by Brother Odus Ozell Bailey and Sisters Betty Jean Work and Audrey Bailey Long. Reverend Bailey served in the United States Navy and was honorably discharged on July 4th, 1950. He then attended seminary and began serving his first appointment at West Jasper Methodist in 1952. Reverend Bailey served within the North Alabama Conference for the next 50 plus years before retiring. He served many Churches and also served as the North Alabama Superintendent. Reverend Bailey touched many lives at the Churches he served and made a tremendous impact on the lives he touched. After his retirement, he remained active in the Church and continued to serve and make contributions to the United Methodist Church. Even at his last stop after retirement, he led Church services at the Lake View Assisted Living Facility. Reverend James David Bailey loved his Church, his family and his country. The family would like to thank Karen Ingram and the staff at Lake View Assisted Living for their love, care and support over the past years. Their love and care provided a final destination for the Preacher and his Wife Marion to live together and enjoy their final years together.
