Janet Harris Troutman

Janet Harris Troutman, 86, of Roswell, Georgia, passed away peacefully in her home on January 16, 2024. She was born on June 20, 1937, in Bessemer, Alabama, to Virgie and Kelly Harris. She grew up in Bessemer and graduated from Bessemer High School in 1955. After high school she worked for South Central Bell. There, a good friend and co-worker introduced her to the love her life, William “Bill” Troutman, who she married in 1966. Janet and Bill made Vestavia Hills, Alabama, their home for over 30 years and Janet remained in their home after Bill passed in 2000. More recently, following a health issue, Janet moved to Roswell, Georgia, to be closer to her only child, Harris, and his family. While living in Vestavia, Janet was an active member of her local garden and music clubs and taught preschool at Vestavia Hills Methodist Church. Also, she loved to watch Harris compete in swimming. When he chose to swim at Auburn, she became an avid Auburn fan and enjoyed watching Auburn sports of any kind. Later, she was a loving caregiver for Bill. Upon moving to Roswell, she became a sideline fixture at her grandsons’ football, baseball and rugby games. Janet was blessed with a beautiful voice. She was a member of the choir at First Christian Church of Bessemer, the church she grew up in, and later the Chancel Choir at Vestavia Hills Methodist Church. She loved performing with the VHMC Chancel Choir as well as the Birmingham Choral Guild, particularly at Christmas. Janet is survived by her loving son and daughter-in-law, Harris and Pamela Troutman, grandsons William and Henry Troutman, sister-in-law Patricia Harris, and nieces and nephews, Rhea Harris, Katherine Westerlund, Russell Harris and Kelley Harris. She was preceded in death by her husband of 34 years, Bill Troutman, her mother and father, Virgie and Kelly Harris, her brother and sister-in-law, Carl Rhea and Betty Harris, and her brother James Harris. She will be remembered as a loving mother and grandmother to Harris and his family, a good friend to many, a talented singer and a loyal Auburn fan. Visitation will be held at Bessemer Brown Service Funeral Home on Friday, January 26th, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, January 27th, at 11:00 a.m. at Bessemer Brown Service Funeral Home.
