Matilda "Tillie" Schober Barnhill

Matilda “Tillie” Schober Barnhill, 74, of Hoover, Alabama and Plano, Texas passed away on January 28, 2019 after an extended battle with a rare cancer. Tillie was preceded in death by her parents Albert and Dolly Schober. She is survived by her husband Fred E. Barnhill, Jr., daughters Anne Barnhill and Alaina Ugland (Mitchell), and son Fred E Barnhill, III (Sara); grandchildren Caroline and William Ugland, Fred, Katie, Dani and Jon Barnhill; sisters Ann Schober McMahon and Betty Schober Hill (Larry), and brothers Albert Schober Jr. (Judy) and John Schober (Nelda), and many nieces and nephews. She was a devout Catholic and member of St. Peter’s in Hoover, AL; she also attended St. Elizabeth Ann Seton in Plano, TX as well as her family church St. Aloysius in Bessemer, AL. She was dedicated to saying daily prayers including the Rosary. Tillie was a loving wife, mother, daughter, sister, aunt, and “Nana” to her six beloved grandchildren. She was dedicated to her family members and never ceased to enjoy her time with them. She was a patient, caring, gentle and inspirational lady to family as well as her many friends. With a keen eye for creativity, Tillie enjoyed sewing and had a small retirement business making blankets for puppies. This business was inspired by her cherished labradoodles who brought much happiness and comfort during her illness. She was an avid reader and enjoyed spending time gardening and being outside. After graduating from Hueytown High School she attended University of Montevallo where she received her BA in Psychology. Later, she continued her education in pursuit of a masters degree. Early in her career she spent many years as the Director of St. Peter’s Kindergarten and then became Principal at St. Barnabas Catholic School until she retired in 2009. Visitation will be held at St. Aloysius Church in Bessemer, AL on Friday February 1, 2019 from 10-11am. The Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 11am. Interment will follow at Highland Memorial Gardens in Bessemer, Alabama. In lieu of flowers, please support the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital (www.stjude.org) or your charity of choice.
