Rina Ann Avery Brown

Mrs. Rina Ann Avery Brown, age 79, went home to be with her Lord on July 30, 2021. Ann was born in Tuscaloosa to Ward and Irene Avery. She grew up in West End, graduated Tuscaloosa High School in 1960, and attended the University of Alabama. Ann married Jimmy Dean Brown of Tuscaloosa, AL on January 30, 1962. She was preceded in death by Ward Avery (Father), Irene Barton Avery (mother), James Harwood Brown (Father-in-law), Margaret McGahey Brown Bagwell (mother-in-law), Travis Bagwell (Step Father-in-law), Barton Avery (brother), and Logan Patrick (great nephew). She is survived by her husband Jimmy Dean, 2 children Jim Brown (Toni) and Rachael Williams (Philip), 4 grandchildren Kaitlyn Brown, Cameron Brown, Hannah Murphy (Chris), and Caleb Williams, 1 brother David Avery (Carolyn), and 3 nieces Cathy (Drake), Jennifer (Jason), Becky (Nathan) and 4 great nephews and 2 great nieces. Ann loved her family and her savior Jesus Christ. She and Jimmy Dean were members of McCalla Bible Church in McCalla, AL for the last 32 years. There she served as the Missions Committee Co-Chair for all 32 years and the pianist and organist for 25 years. In addition to her service in the church, she was a part of the Gideons International Auxiliary for 52 years. She served in several leadership positions in the Bessemer Camp and at the state level in Alabama. For the last 6 years, she served as Chaplain in the Tuscaloosa West Camp. Ann also enjoyed working with her hands. For 20 years, she was a part of the Cover Girls quilting group in Tuscaloosa. There she worked on many quilts for her children and grandchildren as well as for many others. At home, she enjoyed cross stitch and crochet and giving away all that she made. One of her greatest joys was her grandchildren, and to them as well as to many others, Ann was known as “Gran”. Gran loved having the grandkids in the house through the years, traveling to go see them, or taking trips with them. She also loved attending Hannah and Caleb’s school and sporting events. And when not watching the grandkids perform and play, she was watching Alabama Athletics, regularly attending football, basketball, baseball, and softball (her favorite) games and gymnastic meets. She and Jimmy Dean traveled to many tournaments in support of their beloved University of Alabama. And if they could not be there in person, they watched on TV or listened on the radio. Professionally, Ann worked at the Veteran Administration, the Pentagon, the Small Business Administration, and retired as the Chief Administrative Officer of the U.S. Federal Attorney’s Office in Birmingham. She then embarked on a new career in Real Estate with RealtySouth until the activities of family took all of her time. Ann will be greatly missed by many, but we all rejoice in knowing that she is no longer hurting or suffering. She has a new and perfect body, and she is worshipping at the feet of the Father and of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. She was God’s angel while on this earth, always loving, serving, and caring for everyone around her. And we have no doubt that the Father greeted her with “Well done my good and faithful servant.” Visitation will be at Five Points Baptist Church (3718 36th St, Northport, AL) on Sunday afternoon, August 1st, from 5:00 to 7:00pm. Dr. Jay Jackson and Dr. Jim Thompson will officiate a celebration of Ann’s life in a service at Five Points Baptist Church in Northport, AL on Tuesday, August 3rd at 11:00am. Ann and the family have requested that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made in her honor to the Gideons International for the placement of the Word of God around the world.
