Shannon Leigh Huggins Braddock

Shannon Leigh Huggins Huggins, 35, went home to the safe arms of her Lord and Savior Friday, Nov. 2, 2012. She is survived by her two beloved sons, John Lacy and Gary Lacy, Jr.; her husband, Tom Braddock; her stepson, Joshua Braddock; her parents, John and Kathy Huggins, her brother and sister-in-law, Jay and Tina Huggins; her mother-in-law, Jean Braddock; her grandparents, M.C. and Catherine Hosmer; her nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles, and countless lifelong friends. Shannon earned her Mechanical Engineering degree from the University of Alabama in 2010 and became an employee of Alabama Power's Plant Gaston in Wilsonville. She loved her job, made many friends there who thought the world of her, and was making a contribution to her team. Shannon loved her two boys more than anything and the only thing she wanted in this life was to be able to live a life with them of peace and happiness. They knew her total devotion to them and will have wonderful memories to carry with them. She always had the best time with her boys and made sure they did too. All the neighborhood kids always wound up at her home to play with John and Gary when they were at home. She took the time to coach their soccer and baseball teams, and was a math tutor, room mother and classroom volunteer for their classrooms at Chelsea Park, Mt. Laurel and Chelsea Intermediate. Shannon attended Cahaba Heights Elementary and played softball there for many years. In high school, she played softball on the Baker High School team that won the 6A championship 3 years and she was selected as All-County and a Top 10 State player during her senior year. Shannon had a true servants heart, and lived a life of passion and compassion, committed to her abiding love for family and friends, a devotion to God, His Word, and His creation. She left an indelible imprint on the lives of those who were fortunate enough to hear her laughter, to see her beautiful smile, and to witness her undaunted courage. She made a tremendous contribution to this world in the short time she was here. She was a rescuer of stray animals, and worked with Habitat for Humanity, as well as many other charities. Shannon and Tom were members of Hunter Street Baptist Church. The family will receive friends at Tannehill Valley Baptist Church, McCalla, Alabama, the church where she was baptized in her youth, Friday November 9, 2012, from 1:00 until 2:30 PM. Funeral services will follow at the church at 2:30 pm, with burial to follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery, Bessemer, Alabama. Rejoice in the Lord always, I will say it again: Rejoice! Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. ...And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:4-7. We, her family, know she is safe now and that she is home.
