Vicki Brown Daviston

Vicki Brown Daviston was born on April 5, 1963 to Abner Vincent Brown and Wanda J. Brown in Bessemer, Alabama. Her vibrant spirit and ability to make people laugh is a gift she started sharing with others the day she was born. She was a loving sister to her younger brother, “Bubba”, Abner Vincent Brown Jr. Vicki graduated from Bessemer Academy and then went on to The University of Alabama where in 1985 she graduated with a degree in Finance and was a member of Phi Mu sorority. Her greatest pride and joy in life was raising her three children Emily, Andrew, and Margaret Ann Daviston. Her support and kindness to her children and friends had no end. She was a devoted daughter, selfless mother, favorite aunt, and best friend to many. However, her greatest and favorite role came later in life. Vicki was a devoted grandmother, “Vivi”, to her precious grandchildren Charlotte Ann and Norman Carlo Dieguez II. “Princess Figalilly” loved to be with her friends and family and was always the life of the party. Her energy was something you wanted in the room and you could hear her before you could ever see her coming. Although, you may have needed a second look to make sure it wasn’t Princess Diana. She was known for lighting up every room with her infectious happy attitude and humoring everyone with all of her quick wit and adventurous spirit. Trips to Orange beach with her best friends was some of the best medicine the doctor prescribed. Vicki is best known for her strong constitution in life and her positive “never quit” attitude that she adopted in all areas of her life. Vicki battled to the bittersweet end with Ovarian Cancer. Diagnosed in 2010, she was just three weeks shy of fighting this horrible disease for 11 years. Vicki was a fierce warrior. She was called home to Heaven on January 16, 2021 where she is now joined with her grandmother, Margaret K. Johnston, her father; Abner Vincent Brown, and her granddaughter Madalyn Mae Dieguez. Vicki is survived by her children, grandchildren, mother, brother, sister -in-law, nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her partner in life, in sickness and in health, Dick Brittain. Dickie loved Vicki with a true servants heart full of compassion, patience, and kindness. They were truly there for each other and loyal partners for 14 wild and beautiful years. Her legacy lives on and her voice will forever echo throughout The Women’s Center at UAB. In every chemo chair, to anyone wearing teal, and to every Woman and child fighting this fight. You beat the odds, Fig. And that is winning. Like her best friends would say, “I wouldn’t bet against her.” It was Vicki’s wish that in lieu of flowers please make a donation in her name to The Baptist Church of McAdory, 4954 Eastern Valley Road McCalla, Al 35111, The Laura Crandall Brown Foundation, 3150 Lorna Road #410 Hoover, Al 35216 or St. Jude’s Research Hospital For Children. A church service will be held on January 21st at The Baptist Church of McAdory at 11am. Visitation will be from 10-11am at the church. Officiating will be Dr. Bill McCall. Burial will be at Cedar Hill Cemetery.
