March 19, 1922 - July 19, 2019
Cleo Esther Brittain Springer, 97, of McCalla, AL passed away peacefully on July 19, 2019. She was a long-time member of Tannehill Valley Baptist Church where she was church clerk for more than 25 years, taught a ladies’ Sunday School class for several decades, and ministered in multiple capacities to all ages through the years. Her quick wit and keen sense of humor made her the primary ‘Roaster of Church Leaders.’ She graduated from Alexandria High School and attended a two-year program in Anniston in preparation to be a radiologic technician, eventually working for the famous Seale Harris, MD of the Seale Harris Clinic. Upon the birth of her children, she became a stay-at-home mother. Her hands were always busy with knitting or sewing, and countless times she prepared chicken stew or blackberry cobbler (among other ‘delectables’) to serve others who needed a compassionate touch. Both fun and funny, she could always laugh with others or at herself. As a wife, ‘Mom,’ ‘Memommie,’ or simply ‘Cleo,’ she was dearly loved by her family and friends and she loved them faithfully in return. Cleo was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. H.C. Springer. She is survived by her son Allan (Cheryl) Springer; her daughter Alice (Don) Bristow; grandchildren Angela Springer, Beau (Emily) Bristow, Rocky (Kristen) Springer, Brian Bristow, Jessica (Alex) Leslie, and Dustin (Stefanie) Springer and almost-grandson Malcolm Gage; six great grandchildren; her sister, Nannie Lou Moore; a host of special nieces and nephews and extended loving family and friends. The family wishes to extend a special thanks to caregivers Linda Bussey, Charlene Davis, Denise Poe, Debbie Kizziah, Baleigh Marchant, and Kaye Curtis. Funeral service will be Wednesday, July 24, 2019, at 11:00 a.m. at Tannehill Valley Baptist Church with burial following at Jefferson Memorial Gardens, Hoover. Bro. Jon Reaves will be officiating the service. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until service time at the church. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Foundry Ministries; Aspire Movement; or Alabama Baptist Children’s Home. If desired, donations can be sent c/o Tannehill Valley Baptist Church, 12858 Tannehill Parkway, McCalla, AL , 35111.
