Dorothy Ingle Fry, age 96, of McCalla, Alabama, died Monday, Dec 17, 2018. Dorothy was a native of Nauvoo, AL. She married Reese Fry of Lynn, Alabama. Reese served in the Army during WWII. When he returned home from the war, they moved to Tuscaloosa, and he attended the University of Alabama. During this time, Dorothy taught herself to play piano and later attended the conservatory at Birmingham Southern. She also took pipe organ lessons at the University of Alabama. She learned Gregg Shorthand and became a secretary at Progressive Farmer. Most of her married life was lived in the eastern part of Birmingham where she taught piano to hundreds of students. Dorothy served as the organist at several different churches: Central Baptist and Boyles Baptist in Tarrant; Camp Branch; and First Christian Church in Bessemer. Dorothy’s husband, Reese, was a Spanish teacher at Banks High School, and he also taught her Spanish. Together they traveled around the world, including multiple trips to Mexico. In retirement, the Frys settled in McCalla. Reese passed away in 2001. Later, Dorothy retired from playing and joined The Baptist Church at McAdory. There, she served her church with her presence and her prayers. Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Reese Fry; her parents, Martha Howell and Luther Ervin Ingle of Nauvoo, AL; stepmother, Rhoda Davis Ingle; sisters, Pernie Inlow, Lutherine (Dimple) Harbin, Ovia Rabb, Avis McGough, Esther McDonnell; brothers, Kermit Ingle, Quintin (Bob) Ingle, Calvin Ingle, Coolidge Ingle, Dwight (Bud) Ingle. She was also preceded in death by her nieces, Virginia Inlow Teat (her first niece) and Martha Ingle Lowery; and her nephew, Jim Ingle. She is survived by her sister, Sue Ingle Harper; her sister-in-law, Ila Harper Ingle; her nieces, Betty Inlow Blackerby, Dianne Harper Olcott, Susan Harper Giles, Charlene Harbin Winnette, Karen Ingle Wiggins, Mary Sue Ingle West, Martha Rabb, Jim Rabb, Sarah Ann Johnson (special niece), Rita Johnson, Bobbie Rhodes, Shelley Smith, Lila Brown; nephews, Dwight Ingle, Tim Ingle, Ken Ingle, Glenn Ingle, Billy Ingle, Gary Ingle, David Ingle, Jimmy Fry, Terry Fry, Dale Fry, Dustin Fry, Jeremy Fry and Christopher Fry. Dorothy’s funeral service will be held Thursday, December 20, 2018, at 11:00 a.m. at The Baptist Church at McAdory with Dr. Bill McCall officiating. The family will receive friends at the church from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow at Jefferson Memorial Gardens in Trussville. Bessemer Brown Service Funeral Home directing.
