James Robert McCollister

McCollister, James Robert “Jim” age 80, passed away Wednesday, March 23rd, 2022, at his home in McCalla, AL, following a battle with Alzheimer’s. James was born in Village Springs, AL on March 29th, 1941 to James Letcher McCollister and Mae Bushard McCollister. He was a graduate of Phillips High School and the University of Alabama. James was employed as a civil engineer for 37 years with Walter Schoel Engineering in Birmingham. James never met a stranger and will be remembered by his friends and colleagues for his engaging personality, quick wit, and warm sense of humor. James was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Kenneth Lois Beam. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Faye Perry McCollister; daughter, Amy McCollister Matthews (Quinton) and son, Jason Perry McCollister; grandchildren, Mary Wellesley Matthews and William Dean Matthews; brother, Thomas Stephen McCollister (Lynne) and numerous nieces and nephews. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, March 26th, 2022, at Forest Hill Cemetery in Birmingham with Dr. Gil McKee presiding. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to First Baptist Church, 721 Greensboro Avenue, Tuscaloosa, AL 35401.
