Ellen Louise Bunn

Ellen Louise Bunn, 87, of Chattanooga, TN, formerly of Bessemer, AL ascended to heaven on December 21, 2017 in Knoxvillle, TN with her two loving sons by her side after a long battle with multiple chronic illnesses. Louise was the widow of the late Morris D. Bunn, sharing 41 years of marriage before his untimely death in 1986. Louise was born in Montevallo, AL to Joseph and Susie Mae Davis. Louise and Morris lived in Bessemer, AL for a majority of their married life. She was a very active member at Second Baptist Church in Jonesboro. She was very involved in her sons' elementary school activities and transported them to all the sporting events they played as youths. During that time she worked for several companies in Bessemer including Schiffman's and Shivers Clothing. In 1987, she moved to Chattanooga, TN to begin her next stage of life at the young age of 58. She was the Resident Manager for the Ledford Apartments for 11 years before retiring in 1998. During her residency in Chattanooga, Louise met Isaac Cordwell of Redbank, TN and they became inseparable companions until her death. They enjoyed ballroom and square dancing, listening to music, watching football, eating cheeseburgers, and taking long walks on the Walnut Street Bridge spanning the Tennessee River in downtown Chattanooga. Her long-time companion Isaac often referred to Louise as "a lady of honor" because she always sacrificed her time to ensure that the needs of others were met, especially her two sons and her sisters. Her faith in God was strong and it never wavered during her recent illnesses. She will be deeply missed by her family and friends, but the family is at total peace knowing that her long-suffering due to her many illnesses are now over. She is survived by her sons, Morris "Buddy" Bunn (Susan), Birmingham, AL and David "Butch" Bunn (Joan), Knoxville, TN; her sisters, Mary Reynolds (Corder), Alabaster, AL, Kathleen Hereford, Jacksonville, FL, Carolyn Tramell, Bessemer, AL, Stacey Cushing (Jerry), Alabaster, AL; her brother-in-law, Jimmy Bunn (Dean), Pleasant Grove, AL, sister-in-law, Juanita Whittle, Calera, AL, Virginia Cochran, Fayetteville, TN, Mildred Bunn, Hueytown, AL, grandchildren, Heather Jones, Birmingham, AL, Holly Bunn, New Orleans, LA, Brandon Bunn, Knoxville, TN, Tyler Bunn, Knoxville, TN, Davis Bunn, Phoenix, AZ, one great-grandson, Parker Torres, Birmingham, AL and a multitude of nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death was her husband, Morris D. Bunn, her parents, Joseph and Susie Mae Davis, in-laws, Eugene and Essie Bunn; sisters, Josephine Davis, Ann Dockery, and Sara Cook Nichols; brother-in-law, Eugene Bunn, Jr., John Bunn, J.W. Bunn, Walter Dockery, Charles Hereford, Barney Tramell, Grover Cook and sister-in-law, Sandra Allen. Funeral services will be held at Bessemer Brown Service Funeral Home Wednesday, December 27 at 11:00 a.m. with interment at Highland Memorial Gardens, Bessemer, AL following the service. Bro, James Spencer will be officiating. Visitation and viewing will be from 10:15 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home.
