Lawton Taylor "L.T." Ward Jr.

Lawton Taylor ("L.T.") Ward, Jr., went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on July 26, 2025, after a brief illness. He was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Mary Catherine deSabla ("Kakie") Ward, his wife Joyce Roe Ward, his parents, Mr. & Mrs. L.T. Ward, Sr., his sister Francis Drysdale, and his nieces Jane Drysdale and Jodi Newton. He is survived by his children, daughter Terri Lynn Ward, sons Lawton Taylor Ward, III (Angela), Timothy David Ward (Pendleton), Thomas Scott Ward (Tiffany) and grandchildren Taylor Ward, Haley Ward, Lawton Ward, Brevard Ward Wilbanks, Sarah Grace Ward, Zachary Ward, Harrison Ward, Whitney Ward, Ashlee Perez, Stephen Lintner, Andrew Lintner, John Lintner and Will Lintner, great-grandchildren Ward Wilbanks, Wesley Perez, David Lintner, and Ellie Kate Lintner, and his nephew James Drysdale. He is also survived by Roe Family children Carolyn Comer, Bill Roe, Jimbo Roe and Cami Earnest, grandchildren Carrie Comer, Bryan Comer, Dalton Roe, Landon Roe, Laney Roe, Pastor Hunter Roe, Sydney Shook, Rebecca King, Slone Earnest, and great-grandchildren Luke Roe, Emma Jane Roe, Sarah Lou Roe, and Rosie Shook. L.T. was born on September 6, 1930, in Bessemer, Alabama, where he lived his entire life. He graduated from Bessemer High School in 1947 and Birmingham Southern College in 1952, where he played basketball and was a member of Kappa Alpha Order. He spent his 47-year career in the automotive business working for Drennan Motor Company and Tom Williams Automotive until he retired in 1999. He was a member of The First Baptist Church of Bessemer and The Baptist Church at McAdory his entire adult life, serving for many years as a Sunday School Teacher, Deacon, choir member, and on numerous other church committees. He devoted his life to serving his church and the community. He was also a member of Financial Executives International for 55 years, a member of The Club, Inc., and the Metropolitan Dinner Club of Birmingham. He was a long-time active member and board member of Legacy YMCA of Bessemer, a former school board member of Bessemer Academy, board member and chairman of the Garrett Foundation, and an active member of Walnut Lake Land Company. Along with his family, he was deeply grateful to his church family, friends, and neighbors for all of the love and support they provided him in his later years. Instead of flowers, the family requests donations be made to The Garrett Foundation, in care of The Baptist Church at McAdory. The Garrett Foundation is a non-profit Christian book publisher that provides free books to prison inmates, the armed forces, and others in need. The Celebration of Life for L.T. will be Friday, August 8, 2025 at 11:00 AM at The Baptist Church at McAdory, 4954 Eastern Valley Road, Bessemer, AL 35111. The family will receive friends Friday from 10:00 AM until service time at the church.
