Micheal DeWaine Townsend Jr.

Micheal DeWaine Townsend, 39, of Oak Grove, AL passed away on Monday, June 16, 2025. Micheal lived a life marked by devotion to his faith, his family, and his country. Micheal was a graduate of Brookwood High School, where he was involved in multiple sports. He was an excellent football player both as an offensive lineman and line backer, showing relentless determination on the field. He was a standout wrestler on the Varsity team, earning a remarkable second-place finish at the 2004 State Championship. He was a proud veteran of the US Navy. Michael served for five years. During his military service he earned numerous ribbons and medals in recognition of his dedication and bravery. His time in the Navy shaped much of his character, disciplined yet compassionate, strong yet humble. Following his military service, he brought that same commitment to his civilian career. For the past four years he worked for Transtar, U.S. Steel in Fairfield, AL. He took great pride in his work and was respected by many who will deeply miss his presence and camaraderie. Micheal was a Christian whose love for the Lord guided his life. He had a great understanding of scripture and often shared that knowledge with friends and family. He was raising his children to know God and live by His word - a mission he held close to his heart. Above all else, he was a loving husband to his late wife, Jennifer, whom they lost 10 months ago, and a devoted father to their four children. He cherished every moment spent with his children and found joy watching them live life to the fullest. When he wasn't working he could always be found by their side - supporting them, laughing with them, and teaching them. Micheals interest reflected the vibrant spirit he carried through life. He enjoyed church on Sunday, billiards with friends, Auburn football "WAR EAGLE!", women's softball and WWE Wrestling. He also loved to travel, listen to good music and enjoyed a hearty laugh over good comedy. Those who knew him will always remember those bright blue eyes - eyes that captivated many from a young age - and for the warmth he extended to everyone around him. He had an easy smile and infectious laughter. He was always ready to lend a hand or offer support without hesitation. Micheal DeWaine Townsend, Jr. leaves behind a legacy of faith, service, laughter, and love - a legacy that will continue to live on through those who were fortunate enough to know him. May his memory bring comfort to all who mourn him and serve as a lasting reminder of a life well lived in devotion to others. Micheal was preceded in death by his wife, Jennifer; his PawPaw, Claude "Allen" Townsend; his mom, Diane Reaves (Henson); his grandmother, Sharon Headrick; his uncle, Rocky Townsend. Micheal is survived by his parents, Mike and Susan Townsend; his children, Tre', Victoria, Emileea, and Serenity; his grandparents, Donnis Townsend, and Carl Headerick; his brothers, Christopher Reaves (Franny), and Taylor Smith; his sisters, Brandy Wood (Matt), Eli Bowens (Josh), Olivia Atkins, and Aryn Reaves; his aunt, Renea, and his uncle, Heath (Becky), pallbearers will be, Jerry Rowe, Patrick, Wilder, Roy Davis, Luke Haze, Zane Kirkpatrick, Michael Boone, Jon Carter, Dexter Rhodes, William Reach and Matt Wood. The funeral service for Micheal will be held Thursday, June 26, 2025 at 1:00 p.m. at Union Hill Baptist Church 7049 Taylors Ferry Road, Bessemer, AL 35023 with burial following at Pleasant Grove Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. until service time. Bro. Mike Stevens and Josh Hickey will be officiating the service. The family request memorials be sent to Union Hill Baptist Church.
