Peggy Jean Tuggle Barnes Glaze

Peggy Jean Tuggle Barnes Glaze, 95, was born on February 27, 1931. She passed away peacefully at home in Woodstock on August 8, 2026. Peggy was preceded in death by her parents, Eugenia and Himmie "Jug" Waldrop and Cecil Tuggle and by her husbands, Lawrence Barnes and John Glaze, and her step-daughter, Martha Gordy. Mrs. Glaze was raised in Hueytown. After high school she attended the University of Pennsylvania graduating with a BS in Nursing and joined the Air Force using her medical skills to serve others. She traveled to many places meeting lots of lifelong friends along the way. She always enjoyed sharing the story of how she assisted in the surgery of a Queen while in Europe, saying you couldn't imagine the number of guards surrounding that operating room. So many heart-warming stories she loved to tell. Peggy retired as a Lieutenant Colonel after 21 years of military service. Just before retirement Peg married the love of her life, Lawrence Barnes. They enjoyed living on the Warrior River and traveling the US of A. They made a commitment to serve our Lord and enjoyed the fellowship of Liberty Baptist Church where Peg volunteered in the Library. They shared many years together before Lawrence passed into Glory. Later, Peg met John Glaze at church. Their marriage took them to Foley where they enjoyed playing golf daily for several years. Later, they moved to Woodstock to be closer to family. They enjoyed serving God and others at Green Pond Presbyterian Church until John's death. Peggy is survived by her brother, Spencer Tuggle (Debbie); special niece and nephew, Tiffany Marron (Jim) and Chad Tuggle (Katrina); son-in-law, Ernest Gordy and granddaughter, Dawn Gordy; special cousin, Jim Meade; three step-children, John Glaze Jr., Pam, and Craig Glaze along with several nieces and nephews. She, also, leaves behind her special little dachshund, Daisy, who will miss her dearly. A very special "Thank You" to her faithful friend, Rhonda Goodson and her team of caregivers. Bessemer Brown Service Funeral Home will host a celebration pf Peggy's life on Thursday, August 13, 2026. Visitation is at 10:00 a,m, with service to follow at 11:00 a.m. There will be an honorary military salute at the graveside at Toadvine Cemetery. Memorial may be given in her name to Green Pond Presbyterian Church, 2 Presbyterian Road, Woodstock, AL 35184.
